Formal essays are essays that are written to discuss the topic. They are structured using the standard format for an essay of the traditional type. Formal essays are structured differently from narrative essays. They do not contain a title, sentences that begin with a capital “A” or word insertion in the middle of a paragraph or any sentence that begins with a capital “A”. You may also want to use a review of the essay as a reference to familiarize yourself with its structure.
Informative essays are written to convince the reader to reach an opinion. This is done by making a case, providing support evidence, and developing an argument. Unlike a narrative essay, the primary objective of an informative essay is not to reveal information but rather to convince readers of a particular point of view. An informational essay is often used to support a claim in a political debate, or any other type public debate. For instance an informational essay can be used to justify why a particular politician took action to gain political power or explain why a candidate for local office took a pledge of support for a particular issue prior to becoming a candidate.
Narrative essays, on the other on the other hand, are composed as an oral account of some experience that the writer has experienced. Although these types of essays are often referred to as personal essays, in which the writer tells an account about an event that happened to them, this isn’t the only function of the narrative essay. Argumentative essays must contain all the facts and evidence to back up the argument.
Textual analysis essays often require readers to examine an entire sentence, phrase or text passage using sources from many disciplines. The student should be able to discern the meaning of the text, establish the relationship among facts and ideas and then defend their conviction or opinion. Argumentative essays require more organizational skills than the textual analysis essay. A majority of texts require students to demonstrate how their views are consistent with others within the field. This is more than an argumentative essay.

Many college essays are written in this manner, but certain professors demand higher grades from their students. These professors require their students to to read and comprehend their essays, particularly when they are competing for grade points. Some teachers in colleges may see a compare and contrast essay as a way to attack or even an argument on another’s ideas or position. These essays are not appropriate for arguments in thesis statements, argumentative essays or any other kind of review. Review essays are designed to demonstrate why a particular idea is superior to others.
The last kind of essay is expository, also known as narrative essays. Expository essays, just like other types of essays must include specific details to back up their argument.
